• It doesn't have to be a prime membership, but it does ask for your account info upon set up.

• Yes, you do need an Amazon account to use Alexa... it does not need to be a Prime account, the free version will work fine. Prime gives you access to other options.... hope this helps....

• Yes, it's free to make an account, or if you're one of those don't like your info out there, make up a backup email on yahoo, then make a Amazon account and use that email. It's just easier to sign up, or everytime you try to add an app or channel they will be asking for info .
