• I'm pretty sure that you do at first. You'll need to download the 'Installer' program from the Amazon store before you can install KODI or some of the other streaming apps. It won't cost you anything to get it though - so no harm, no foul.

• I believe you do because they monitor how many devices you use. You can also set up an account on Amazon and not buy anything or use them for anything except the fire stick. As for the device count once you have the stick if you download the app or put the app on a roku it will want you to verify on the account that you did this. There are a limited number of devices. Also this show you if someone stole your account and started to add devices to your account should that happen.
