no. it connects to fire stick through bluetooth and pairs immediately upon it being powered up for the first time.

Also if you have the previous version of the fire tv stick there is seperate purchase of the fire tv stick remote with Alexa voice you can purchase for $30 to $40 depending where you buy it. If you already have it in your remote just long press the mic button at the top to activate and say things such as play music or launch Netflix. That simple! Hope I helped!
