• You plug it in using USB connection and power adapter. Then you view Amazon content and movies using Amazon Prime. You can load other apps on it like Hulu, DirectVNow, YouTube, Netflix etc to stream tv shows and movies. Its a way to drop cable to watch tv using only internet connection. You can use regular Amazon account but then you cannot see Amazon movies for free. You can pay per movie to watch.

• Regular Amazon will work however you just won't get the benefits of being an Amazon member. It will stream Netflix, Hulu and any cable provider privileges you have.

• No, you do not need to be a prime member. Just extra benefits if you are, like Amazon Video, etc.
