• A back camera allows you to take pictures of others. If you have only a front facing camera, it will only allow you to take pictures of whatever is in front of the camera, usually meant for selfies. You don't need both but most products nowadays come with both. Depends on personal preference

• Front facing is what you use to Skype or take a selfie. Rear facing allows for general picture taking.
