Q: Is this version suitable for an 8 yr. old or would another one be better
A: We bought the new Kindle for our 8yr son to keep him busy on the 7hr drive to VA. It did what we need it to do the WHOLE weekend - and kept him busy and interested. The weekend was more adult specific and our son is not one to really sit still for any length of time. He operates it easily, we activated the parental controls with ease, he asks when he wants a new game downloaded and we use this as an additional reward for positive choices. I recommend purchasing the protector shield and flip case for the Kindle as well. Another layer of protection for little boys is always a good thing.
Q: Do the fire tablets let you view WPS office documents on a larger screen

A: It's great at night but horrible in the sun. I bought my husband a Nook Glowlight which is great. You can turn on the light on it and read in the dark or leave the light off and read out in the sun.
