We bought the new Kindle for our 8yr son to keep him busy on the 7hr drive to VA. It did what we need it to do the WHOLE weekend - and kept him busy and interested. The weekend was more adult specific and our son is not one to really sit still for any length of time. He operates it easily, we activated the parental controls with ease, he asks when he wants a new game downloaded and we use this as an additional reward for positive choices. I recommend purchasing the protector shield and flip case for the Kindle as well. Another layer of protection for little boys is always a good thing.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think that it would be suitable for an 8 year old. My two 11 year old grandchildren have been using the Kindle and Acer for a couple or so years now.
