• I have always had a cell number on my iPad, but it is not for calling people. It is to keep me online when I am away from wi-fi. It uses cell towers, and I don’t have to use public Wi-Fi, which is not safe. I can use my cell service instead.

• Yes you may use as communication device but it’s not really as convenient as a cell phone.

• No You can not make calls like a cell phone you can connect with other Apple accounts to face time them . my Granddaughter loves this way of getting in touch with me . she also has the ipad air.
