they will work with any model of iPhone or any phone in general.

You might be able to work around it by pairing manually since these can connect to any Bluetooth device. I use them on my Nintendo Switch all the time. But to use the latest software features, a newer iPhone would be needed.

However I would suggest to go with an older gen pair like a AirPods 2nd gen since the pro has features which wouldn't work with the older gen iPhones. Don't get me wrong the 2nd gen AirPods are still an amazing pair!
