• This new model of iPad mini uses USB-C for charging. So, if your previous iPad or any other mobile Apple device used the Lightning connector, that would be a no. However, the box comes with the charging cable and the power brick, which means that you should not worry about that.

• Yes, you need usb type c (comes included) now instead of lightning. If you still want and don't want to purchase a lot of type c cables, I suggest looking at the iPad 9th generation below.
