How does the trade in work null

You must purchase the new phone at full price, (they will give you an estimated value for your phone prior), and after that’s completed, they take your existing phone, transfer the data to your new phone and wipe it clean. It’s then sent in to their rehab department for formal assessment and your account will be credited with the value in a few days.

NOTE: AT&T trade in do not give you the upfront trade in payment credit but instead payments for the trade in iPhone are divided into 30 monthly payments. Read the fine prints.
