If you are trading in your old phone, then you have to bring it in and in my case, I wasn't allowed to transfer the data in the store from my old Samsung to my new at the time iPhone 13 Pro Max when I previously had it. Otherwise when the new phone is acitvated, it will create an ESIM (Electronic SIM) with your phone number from your old phone that is being upgraded from. It will be able to make calls and texts, etc. after it's activated and linked to your phone provider.
