In my opinion it is better than the previous MacBook Air, it is lighter and seems to be faster. I bought mine to replace a 2013 MacBook Pro Retina and so far I am very happy with it.

If you can live with the transition to USB-C and the keyboard, then it's a great fit. However, if you have a lot of older peripherals. The older MacBook Air is probably a better fit.
