You don't have to because of the number of viruses for Macs being very small(fewer than 10 last I checked), but there are plenty of options in the Mac App Store that comes on the computer(under the apple icon at the top of the screen). I do suggest staying away from Norton(overly aggressive virus scans and firewall) and McAfee(not aggressive enough), if you do opt to get a virus scan. I have used AVG for years on my Windows computers, but I am not sure if they have a Mac version or not. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When I took this same computer into the Apple Store at Baybrook Mall in Houston, TX and attended their free Mac Basics class they said they don't recommend that users install virus protection software onto their computers. Reason behind this was due to Apple builds security into their operating system per the individual who gave us the class.

Of course, don't open emails that you don't know where they came from and just follow your typical protocol and common sense to not introduce viruses on your laptop
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Apple guys say it doesn't. I tried to run Webroot on it, and it wouldn't work. Had to uninstall it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Every system either needs a virus program, or an update, if the system comes with a "starter" program.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No When I first purchased mines best buy gave me a free 1 year subscription I have never installed it on the computer and its been just fine. From what I hear MacBooks fight off viruses.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you open email that you don't recognize who they are from, then yes you need protection on it, but not norton. They sell a antivirus protection for it at best buy. They say its better than Norton, because Norton doesn't fully protect your computer. I didn't buy it, because I have never downloaded a virus onto my computer, or open emails from address I do not recognize. My friend did that once on her mac pro and it got a virus. Even the sales person at best buy said if you don't do that kind of stuff than the antivirus protection is not needed, but if you do visit websites you don't know, or do more on your laptop then just emails and Facebook and iTunes, then you would need it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I conntacted apple themself and they said no it's built in! :)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It comes with six months of virus software from Trend Micro, though if you wish to get a different program or extend the one that comes with it, it's your decision. It's always good to add virus software, especially if you spend any serious time on the internet clicking links, watching videos, downloading software.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it does not need any extra security
