“I connect it to my computer... but it has now power. But, alas, there is no on/off power switch. How does it get power? The CD's or DVD's will not even go in... without power. there is no power cord - and it doesn't show up on my apple screen”

The USB cord should give power to the drive when connected to the computer. Sounds like you may have a faulty drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Once you connect it to your Mac you have to insert the CD/DVD almost all the way in before it engages and pulls it the rest of the way in. It should automatically start playing. If it doesn’t you can search for your CD/DVD drive and open it that way.
