• The USB cord should give power to the drive when connected to the computer. Sounds like you may have a faulty drive.

• Once you connect it to your Mac you have to insert the CD/DVD almost all the way in before it engages and pulls it the rest of the way in. It should automatically start playing. If it doesn’t you can search for your CD/DVD drive and open it that way.
