As far as I know, all apple watches work only with IPhones, and it doesn’t matter the series or iPhone number. To listen to the music you will need wireless headphones that can connect to the watch via Bluetooth. The headphones don’t need to be made by Apple, but they need to be wireless.

I do not use it much for music, I do have wireless headphones and they are synced with a boom also and works perfectly. I have GPS model only. I kind of wish I would have spent the extra and purchased the cellular model, but this was my first iWatch so my granddaughter may end up with it in a year or so and I will do the cellular. When my daughter compared this with her Fitbit the iWatch surpasses a Fitbit by a long shot!
