• Unless you purchased a cellular version, it comes out of the box ready to be used. So if you buy it as a gift, the person you give it to (lucky person) they can start using it right away. The most complicated part of using an Apple Watch is pairing it with an iPhone. Note: I am an Apple person, I have no idea how this Apple Watch works with an Android phone.

• I believe the only way they are locked is if you get it thru the cellphone companies.

• If this watch is the GPS version without cellular you’ll have no problem gifting it and them being able to use it on their IPhone.
