Do you Need to have a Doorbell ?? null

To install Arlo Video Doorbell, users must have a wired doorbell and chime with existing electrical wiring, voltage between 16V AC and 24V AC, and a 10VA transformer.

The unit that I purchased requires a transformer to get its power. My old doorbell system was good enough to power the "wired" Arlo doorbell.

You don't have to have a doorbell. But if you have a camera system without two-way audio, the doorbell have audio as well as siren. That will keep you from having to purchase the cameras with he two-way audio.
