Now that I bought one and actually wired a chime and transformer in set up I find the setting for using it directly off of power supply. Of course with the massive delay you may want to chime and that's probably why they don't want you to use it without one! The delay almost makes the thing useless. I might be returning it.

To install Arlo Video Doorbell, users must have a wired doorbell and chime with existing electrical wiring, voltage between 16V AC and 24V AC, and a 10VA transformer.
