“Does the mousepad make the desktop soft? I need a desk that my son can use for gaming and school. Surface needs to be good for writing. Would this work? TIA.”

It makes the whole surface feel like a thin mousepad. I would think writing in a notebook would work fine but on loose paper it would most likely not work well. It is a very soft material
