“Says this is an AiMesh device. Does this mean only other AiMesh devices can be used to extend coverage? I have a couple of NetGear Plugin extenders in my detached garage and sunroom will they still work? Thanks richds”

The Ai Mesh is specific to Asus brand routers. Most of their newer ones can be configured to be in a mesh setup. The network extenders should work fine, you just have to re-pair them back up with the new router.

The catch is that ASUS will not support troubleshooting if you have issues with the third party extenders. AiMesh devices will create a mesh overlay instead of just extending the next work and would be optimized. As an alternative route, you could also look at throwing a third party firmware on both the ASUS router and the Netgear extenders like DD-Wrt.
