• Yes to both questions. All this mesh system does is replace your current stand-alone outer.

• Yes it will work with xfinity, and yes you will need a 3.1 modem for this to work.

• Yes you need a modem. BUT WHY DO YOU NEED THIS Router? IF YOU HAVE EXFINITY WiFi. This is a router that would connect to any modem to provide WIFI signals throughout Maybe you have an xfinity modem

• unless the router says it is a router and modem combo which I am pretty sure this one doesn't you will need a modem to make it work with the internet
