Unfortunately yes. It will be close to 40% slower on CPU and igpu in single channel mode depending on the workload.

More memory is still better, even if "single channeled". Also: With the Best Buy spec'd G14? The best you're going to get is an increase to 24GB of RAM. Now, also keep in mind, that you're not going to just be able to send that upgrade stick to a newer G14, if you have an older one, as there is an upgrade in memory that was performed for newer models.
