• Asus is wrong. Both slots are Gen 4. I confirmed this by moving my Samsung 980 Pro to the second slot after buying the Samsung 990 Pro and performance benchmarks are identical between the slots.

• The laptop comes with with a PCIe 3.0. Unsure if a 4.0 will work. I used a 3.0 2TB drive without issue to upgrade mine.
