I'm not certain on all the requirements for cyber security work/education, but I think this laptop should work well. I regularly write, compile, and run my code on this laptop. Large, quality screen is good for seeing a lot at once, and 16gbs of ram with the i7 chip will be very competent in almost any workflow that doesn't require a dedicated GPU

However, if the major you're taking requires any GPU intensive tasks, you should reconsider, as this laptop has integrated graphics, which isn't powerful enough in some cases.
