“One of the first questions about this phone was if it needed batteries, and the answer by somebody was NO it didn't use batteries, but then later somebody said it needs batteries for the CallerID display to work. Which is correct??”

• It needs double a batteries to power up the display. Also note that the display doesn't have a back lit and it may seem dark looking from certain angles.

• All I can say is when I got the phone I put the batteries in because there was a place for them. I did not try to operate without. Works perfect for me. I never had caller ID on my other phones and I love it. Saves me picking up robo calls. For this price? Heck my cutsie phones didn't have the volume this one has and were useless. But I still like having a landline as a backup.
