“I’m a grandma who is ignorant about this. We promised our 10 year old grandson PS5 last Christmas never dreaming a year later would still not be available. Is the ATARI a good substitute…..what do we have to purchase for him to use it….no computer here”

• No, this is not a good substitute for a PS5. Consider an XBOX series X. The Atari VCS is a system based on the all of vintage systems they released in the 70’s and 80’s.
