YES. Audio Technica recommended upgrading the stylus to the AT-VMN95ML (red). It is a simple snap in replacement but provides much better sound. It retails around $150 though. You can also get the Ortofon 2M Red Moving Magnet Cartridge for around $99 but you will have to install the cartridge which is a little more work. Personally I feel investing in higher quality speakers is a better choice as most of the noticeable sound quality is from the speakers. I just bought an extra AT-VMN95E (green) stylus as a back-up since I am happy with the sound so far. I might try the AT-VMN95ML if I decide to upgrade the stylus. Yes it can. The cartridge is removable if you would like to change it out completely (cartridge and stylus) for another make or model cartridge. Also, the performance of the provided (AT-VM95E) cartridge can be upgraded simply by replacing the stylus assembly with one of higher quality from the AT-VMN95 Series of replacement styli.
