• No. It has a built in pre-amp. It has a switch to allow for it to be toggled off if you have an external unit, though I hear that’s not perfect. I use the built in pre-amp and it works just fine.

• If your receiver has a phono in, then no. Mine works great with my Pioneer, no preamp required.

• We do not have a preamp and it works well. But with that being said my sons receiver is older and not considered an AV receiver. I have a newer receiver in my room and had issues hooking up components to my AV receiver without a preamp.
