“Are there required liquids that must go into each glass canister? For example, could each canister just be filled with a different mixer, no spirit in any? Do you get to choose which of the canisters is emptied per cocktail/mocktail?”

It's designed to be used with the five liquors as mentioned. Those form the basis of most cocktails. Although you could feel with others, I'm not sure why you'd want to given their capsules or design for those five main liquors

You supply the liquor, which is great, because you choose what goes in your drinks, want beam, fill it with beam, want jack, fill it with jack... The pods are the mixers. And honestly, I picked one up last night, made the Cosmo, Sour, and Old fashioned, and they were GREAT. Little pricy for a start, but this things a keeper.
