Yes, you can. But the markings on the carafe don’t match the coffe level markings on the machine. To get 6 cups of coffee, I have to fill the carafe with water to halfway between the 6- and 8-cup marks

Yes! The indicator on the glass water carafe shows amount of water needed for either hot water or coffee. Side water reservoir also shows amount of water.
