I'm sure this does not have auto shut off. That would defeat maintaing proper cooking temperature.

No, you must unplug after use, it is a tabletop and should always be monitored, you will catch a lot of stuff on fire if you just turn on and walk away. This is a hot cooking utensil, use safely.
