It is my understanding if the phone you purchase is an unlocked phone, you can use a SIM card from whichever carrier you choose, but you then have to get the plan through that carrier. Best practice is to check with TMobile if the phone is compatible. The carrier will tell you what information they need from the phone (usually on the box the phone comes in) to check compatibility.
