When I researched this product, it's ideal use is designed for beginner's and thus may explain why the price point is more attractive for consumers. It can record vocals and musical instruments very well.

If you're using a computer to record on, the simple solution is to plug a set of headphones into another port and check your audio settings such that the mic is the audio input and the headphones are the audio output. I sometimes do that with my Samson Q2U (which is competitively priced with the Snowball but comes with a small-USB-port and a set of headphones that plugs into it). Sometimes having the phones plugged into the mic is uncomfortable for space/movement reasons, so I just plug my earbuds into the computer instead.
