It actually cancels out background noise, quite well. The condenser picks you up best if you're about 6 inches from the mic and virtually all other audible sounds are cancelled out. MacBook devices for some reason don't let the condenser work quite as it should, but on my lenovo laptop it works like a dream.

The companion app “Sherpa” supports offers the full experience with Firmware updates and adjustments. I have attached links for the Snowball iCE setup guide and Blue Sherpa download for your reference. “Snowball iCE” features a Cardioid pickup pattern. The Cardioid pattern picks up sound from the front of the mic. The Blue “Snowball” looks very similar but there is a switch on the back to select the polar pattern. “Snowball” offers the additional pickup patterns of “Cardioid with -10db pad” and “Omnidirectional”. If you are looking for the microphone to pick up the background noise, you may want to consider the “Snowball” as the additional option of “Omnidirectional” will pick up sound all around the microphone, while “Cardioid” picks up from the front of the microphone. If you are looking to avoid background noises, then the Cardioid setting will be best for picking up sound at the front of the microphone. The Blue USB microphones are all great options with easy setup, great audio, and they are very versatile with different audio software/applications.
