Hi Dale, thank you for your question regarding Model:NIT5668UC. Due to the fact that the elements are not connected it may not recognize the pan. Each element has a lower limit for pan detection. This depends on the diameter of the ferromagnetic area of the cookware and the material of which its base is made. For this reason, you should always use the element that best matches the diameter of the base of the pan.
