I did the exact same thing which you're talking about. I connected it to my echo Dot and my computer. The speaker will simultaneously play audio, so that's the best part. However, if you want to summon Alexa, you can only use the microphone on the echo dot. But they are powerful enough so you won't have a problem.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have my dot plugged into these and they sound amazing. I have a 3.5 to L/R split cable that came with my soundbar that I use to connect them. Much better sound quality than the bluetooth speaker that I use with the dot in my room. The best part is that they are hardwired. The bluetooth seems to have issues with the new music groups that you can enable with the echo. I have 2 dots and one echo and my bluetooth in my room disconnects when I play "everywhere" but these do not.

Lots of things will influence sound quality, audio codecs, audio drivers, (software, which will be determined by your streaming service, or your software on your other devices) and sound card. Also, you're either gonna be streaming music from the internet, lossy, or streaming music over bluetooth from another computer type device, lossy. So, if you like playing your FLAC and other lossless quality music files, you can't do that with a Dot. I have used the speakers, tho, and the sound quality is really really good. They aren't very loud. But if you're cool with the sound quality you hear on your computer while streaming from youtube, etc... then I think it's going to be really hard to notice a difference. You can do more research on the hardware, by following this link https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/news/teardown-tuesday-amazon-echo-dot-v2/ Sorry, not super helpful. I would just be concerned about the speakers volume, while controlled by the Dot.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They do have a "hard" power switch, so they should work fine with something like the Dot. As to the quality of the PC vs the Dot: any speaker system can only reproduce what you give it. if the Dot produces decent audio, then these speakers will do a decent job of playing it. Just be aware that these aren't the most powerful speakers out there; they're enough for when you're sitting in front of them, but they're definitely not "fill the house" speakers. For something that can fill a large room and be heard down the hall, consider the Klipcsh Promedia 2.1.
