The speakers are automatically muted when headphones (or any cable with an 1/8-inch stereo plug) are connected to the system.

I went ahead a purchased these speakers and to be clear;
When headphones are connected the speakers are muted and the volume knob on the speakers does control the headphone volume. I asked this because I do have other speakers (another brand) that, with headphones connected, volume must be controlled through software and I find that annoying. By the way, my headphones actually sound better than they ever have before when plugged into these Bose speakers.

My apologies, I meant to also ask if when headphones are attached does the volume knob control headphone volume? or do you have to control it with software like on some other speakers?
