Are they truly noise canceling? null

Yes. There are different levels of the noise canceling feature. When I need to hear my surroundings, I don't have them on max. I use the maximum noise canceling at night because my husband snores and they COMPLETELY drown out the sound and I'm able to get a good night's rest.
