• Yes you can use just one earbud with the other still in the case. The only disadvantage I’ve seen is if your using the left only you don’t have any touch controls other than skipping a song.

• From what I have researched it's not recommended, but I believe the right ear can be played alone and the left ear I'm not sure if it has to be outside the case or if it can be placed in the charging case. I believe the recommendation is to use both in the transparency mode for activities that you would like to use only one ear. I also read that when you take an earbud out of your ear it pauses the music. The bottom line is I'm not sure.
