• Stands alone. It’s an Alexa controlled unit. I ask her to play a different kind of music and she will pull selections from I heart tune in etc. Also weather reports, timer, etc.

• Thanks for your question, Yes it can be used as a standalone speaker as long as it is connected to Wi-Fi! You can ask Alexa to play music for you.
