The Soundlink II is smaller than the Soundlink III. I have listened to both and chose the III; it produced much richer sound quality. I listened to the II, and then to the III: my observation was that the II sounded like one might expect a portable speaker to sound, but the III was closer to a home bookshelf speaker system. The bottom line, for me, was that the II produced a much smaller, thinner sound than the III. To test this for yourself have a person play a well orchestrated crooner tune (from someone like Frank Sinantra, Dean Martin, Johnny Mathis, Michael Buble, etc.) while looking away from the sound source. Have them switch between the two and try to describe the sound you are hearing and attributing to that particular sound source. I'm confident you will pick the Soundlink III every time.

Because it delivers sound that’s full and clear at any level, it’s well-suited for sharing music with others. The SoundLink Mini II is our smallest Bluetooth speaker, with an elegant design and full-range sound from a speaker that fits in the palm of your hand. It also features speakerphone.
