Hi Victoria, We increased the midrange driver from 4" to 5" and reduced the bass drivers to 5". This allowed us to place the tweeter on top in milled aluminum enclosure, which improved the sense of height and clarity you hear when listening to voices. The increased size of the midrange driver offset the smaller bass drivers. We believe that the net improvement over the HTM71S2 is quite noticeable and encourage you to have a listen.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Victoria, The biggest difference between the HTM71 S2 and the HTM71S3 is the latter center channel has the tweeter mounted on top of the cabinet instead of near the top within the cabinet. This provides two major sonic advantages - one is the wider sound dispersion as a result of the extra space to breathe, resulting in a more open presentation in the higher frequencies. The other advantage is the tweeter housing is not negatively impacted by cabinet vibration in the way it would be when housed withing the cabinet. This can allow for more detail to be delivered. Apologies for the delay in the response.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These smaller bass cones are this model's major shortcoming, IMHO. I have found its lack of low bass a major disappointment! With a subwoofer, in the overall system, it might be tolerable.
