“Is it possible just to start the machine and go rather than having to use the touch screen? Asking for an elderly relative that wants to use mine but needs it to be more simple.”

Unfortunately not possible to use this product without the screen. You have the option to choose manual but definitely have to use the screen.

No, only way to use this treadmill is with the touchscreen. In fact, if the touchscreen dies (which mine has) the treadmill is useless.
