No you use it just as you would any other gift card whatever you don’t use during one trip remains on the card for future use

No, not that I've ever heard of. A few businesses have expiration dates on a gift card, normally 2 or 3 years but that's the minority these days. Most businesses have no expiration date on their gift cards anymore due to community pressure. You can spend 5 cents a day if you want, 5 cents per month and whatever amount is necessary!
