No to your first question and no there are no automatic print cartridge renewal. I normally get my cartridges and paper from Amazon.

No annoying pop-ups, watermarks, subscriptions, etc. You can purchase and use the ink+paper from Best Buy or other retailers and use it like normal, without any subscription as well. I don't know how well third-party refills are, but for the cost per print for genuine Canon, I personally wouldn't want to bother with third-party brands anyways. The refill packs have the exact amount of 'ink' to cover the number of included photo papers in each box. I assume the 'ink' is actually like a long roll or something in the cartridge.
