• I don't know I didn't read the booklet. I would check the manufacturers site if I had concerns. What I can say about this item is that it gets the water very hot, I had a Faberware one before and it didn't get as hot. This model was made for tea so it gets really hot. Sometimes I prefer not to have it so hot. Great for black tea not so much for instant drinks. There are temperature controlled ones for twice the price..

• Since the glass is heat resistance it is made of Borosilicate glass like the bakers in the chemistry lab. the remaining parts are made of Stainless Steel then there is no plastics in direct contact with water.
