- Answer Yes, the dash cam can be configured to record every time the unit is powered on. And just an FYI, your cell phone is not required for the basic functions of this radar detector, it’s only needed when accessing the live data features and camera playback options…

- Answer No you dont have to use it, but its useful as the IRadar app does connect to Escort Live, so you could get some heads up if there is a active scan up ahead. Also the phone is good to use to update the detector firmware.
