Hi. Any grounds that get past the filter can get stuck in the rubber stopper of the dispenser. Rinsing the stopper well will take care of this issue.

I don't know why it would be leaking into the tray. they have never warn out i just wanted a new one. the last one was damaged in a move so i ordered a new one which i am still using. Sorry i am not much help to you
