The filter is a gold permanent cone type filter. Very easy to clean. You can use paper filters if desired as well.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Musicloverz is correct; it is a cone-style filter. You should buy the #4 size paper filters. More convenient that the cone shaped mesh filter; and I don't like rinsing even a small amount of the grounds down my drain. Eventually, it will clog up.
